Do you mean this?
Tentative Diagnosis: WSD based on the pathognomonic gross pathological marks on the carapace often attributed as hallmark pockmarks left by WSSV infection.
Confirmatory Diagnosis: Pending, prior to the result obtained via PCR molecular diagnostic test for WSSV.
Time for Genics MultiPath.
As Wyatt Earp said: "Fast is fine but accuracy is everything."
Presently, WSSV infection occurs at about 11% in Durán, the Gulf of Guayaquil, Puná, and Sabana Grande in Ecuador, as reported by Silvia Medranda et al. (2022).
Along with IHHNV detection in Guayas at 25% incidence and 14-16% in El Oro. While NHP at a 14% incidence in Guayas, and 8% in Balao and Balosa.
With the threats of expressions of all forms of vibriosis lurking in the corner being ever-present everywhere.
Nothing new beyond being unmanageable to Ecuador using its tried and tested semi-intensive method of shrimp farming with its Ecuadorian strains of WSSV-IHHNV tolerant Penaeus vannamei.
However, the current low-level incidence of viral infection and the threats of isolated production failures may lead to an increase in detection rate with greater magnitude of impact losses over a larger expanse of production coverage area, respectively, as Ecuador pushes itself to increase total volume production annually.
As history has shown across the shrimp farming world that a totalitarian open outdoor grow-out Intensification is a sure path to destruction waiting to happen ... with a long road to recovery.
Where the hardest question to answer in this shrimp farming industry has been always:
When is enough?
And crowding in the open environment exposed to the uncontrollable elements of nature has been always the number 1 instrument in the toolbox used by invasive pathogens to break the line and cause an outbreak.
