I have work in aquaculture since 1995, mainly with shrimp culture (maturation, larval rearing and growthout). I am also realIy interested in pathobiology and biosecurity. Currently, I work as Executive Director of Venezuelan Aquaculture Society (SVA) and professor at Marine Affairs School (Escuela de Ciencias Aplicadas del Mar), at Universidad de Oriente (Margarita Island, Venezuela).
The New Shrimp List is created to replace the Yahoo group shrimp list that has been deprecated by Yahoo. This new site will allow anyone interested in the shrimp industry to post, question, search, blog, etc. etc. the new site offers much more flexibility and in time should serve as an extensive knowledge base for anyone who wants to learn more about the shrimp industry.

On september 6, was released the third issue of The Aquaculturist (El Acuicultor), quarterly journal of Venezuelan Aquaculture Society (Sociedad Venezolana de Acuicultura). Its worth to say that the journal is written in spanish. This issue, corresponding to july 2021, has some interesting articles for shrimp farming:
* Wilem van der Pijl writes about the renewed interest in black tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, in India.
* Fernando Kubitza writes on efficient management of aeration.
* Luis Fernando Aranguren and colleagues form University of Arizona writes on effects of salinity on EHP impact in Penaeus vannamei.
* SVA editorial team dedicate a tribute to recently deceased shrimp pathologist Donald Lightner.

On september first was launched the Venezuelan Aquaculture Society website (spanish), platform where will be promoted all the aquaculture initiatives. Shrimp farming will have a special focus due to its importance in Venezuela and Latin America. You will find a wide set of interesting elements: webinars, issues of its quarterly journal as well as issues of a newsletter, all free of cost.
