Dear Sirs, I have observed that many L. vannamei shrimp farmers in AP (India) where the culture is done in low saline waters using ground ( bore) water, salinity range 5-6 ppt use lot of commercial grade minerals like Zinc Sulphate 60%, Mutate of Potash 33%, Magnesium Chloride and other fertilizers to enrich the soil with minerals. The bore water has 200 ppm of Calcium, 100 ppm of Magnesium but the Potassium levels are pathetically low 20-30 ppm. Does the enrichment of soil really helps in due course of culture where the farmers believe that the soil slowly releases the minerals in water and maintain required level in water? Kindly suggest good pond preparation methods to be adopted for low salinity culture and key minerals to be checked during the crop and quantities to be applied e.g in a 0.5 ha pond.
