One of our customers asked me how much water and energy we use to grow 1 pound of shrimp. I started doing some research and found plenty info on beef and chicken, but not so much on shrimp. While at our farm we grow 5 kg per 1,000 liters, thus about 23.5 gallons per pound with very little exchange, I am not sure what how much water is used to produce our feed. Any thoughts? As far as energy, it takes about 60 kwh to grow 5kg so about 5.3 kwh per pound of whole shrimp. Wonder how this compares to extensive and semi intensive shrimp farms and what I may be missing. If shrimp are really so favorable, when compared to other proteins, then why aren't we promoting that fact? Just an fyi, beef uses 1799 gallons of water and 31.5 kwh....
